Eccoci per la prima volta a parlare di Organo Hammond e di Blues. Non possiamo che affrontare l’argomento con l’artista di punta del panorama organistico nazionale e non solo.Alberto Marsico è nato a Torino nel 1966. E’ attivo a livello professionale da circa venticinque anni come organista e tastierista; la sua passione per l’organo Hammond nasce però nel 1994, dopo aver frequentato i seminari di Jack McDuff a Genova.
Proprio nel 1994 incide il disco “Hammond Blood” , ormai un disco “cult” degli appassionati di organo Hammond, che è stato il primo disco di un “Organ trio” registrato in Italia.
Nella sua ventennale carriera ha collaborato con alcuni dei più grandi nomi del firmamento jazzistico mondiale come (tra gli altri) Jimmy Cobb, Jimmy Witherspoon, Bobby Durham, Kenny Burrell, Joey De Francesco, Jesse Davis e Alvin Queen. Si è esibito e ha inciso dischi in tutto il mondo: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Mosca, Sydney, Singapore, Oslo, Berlino, Madrid, Parigi, Amsterdam, Bruxelles e ha tenuto seminari in numerosi conservatori europei. Da tempo fa parte del team di Jazzitalia (www.jazzitalia.net) per il quale pubblica lezioni on-line riguardanti l’organo Hammond, la sua storia, la tecnica e i suoi maestri. Nel 2005 un altro sogno si realizza: viene chiamato dal Beatles Fan Club Italia, in occasione del trentennale della sua fondazione, per registrare un cd celebrativo. Proprio in questa occasione varca la soglia del mitico Studio 2 di Abbey Road a Londra ed all’organo ove si sedettero Paul McCartney e Billy Preston registra due brani dei Beatles.Come forse alcuni di voi ricorderanno, è stato recentemente invitato a partecipare ad una puntata della trasmissione “Superquark”, condotta da Piero Angela, in qualità di musicista esperto dell’organo Hammond, del quale può dirsi certamente uno dei massimi specialisti europei. Tra le altre cose è anche co-progettista ed endorser delle tastiere KeyB Organ, strumenti orientati specificamente alla riproduzione del suono dell’organo Hammond.
English textUna delle cose straordinarie di questa giornata passata in studio con Alberto è stato il post-video, quando gli abbiamo chiesto – a turno – di suonare un po’ di pezzi tra i nostri preferiti e lui (come una sorta di human juke-box) ci ha mostrato quanto il suo playing sia poliedrico passando dai classici del Jazz al blues di Booker T, per arrivare fino all’hard-rock dei Deep Purple.

A proposito di video; la scelta del brano è stata davvero durissima. Ogni “take” era a suo modo straordinaria ed alla fine abbiamo optato per questo brano perché forse è uno di quelli che meglio mostra la straordinaria tecnica e sensibilità artistica di Alberto. Potrete apprezzare come lui mantenga una linea di basso impeccabile con la mano sinistra mentre con la destra suona cose che…beh lo lasciamo scoprire a voi. Si parte. Here we are for the first time talking about Hammond Organ and Blues. We ‘ve approached this subject with the leading organ artist in Italy (and not only).Alberto Marsico was born in Turin in 1966. His professional music work begins twenty-five years ago as organist and keyboardist, and his passion for the Hammond organ, however, was born in 1994, after attending the seminars of Jack McDuff in Genoa.
In the 1994 he has recorded the album “Hammond Blood” wich now is a Hammond Organ fan’s cult record and which was the first record of an” Organ trio ” in Italy.In his twenty-years career he has worked with some of the biggest names in world jazz firmament as (among others), Jimmy Cobb, Jimmy Witherspoon, Bobby Durham, Kenny Burrell, Joey De Francesco, Jesse Davis and Alvin Queen. He has performed and recorded all around the world: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Moscow, Sydney, Singapore, Oslo, Berlin, Madrid, Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels and he lead workshops in several European conservatories. He is part of the Jazzitalia team (www.jazzitalia.net) for which he public on-line lessons on the Hammond organ. In 2005 another dream came true: he was called by the italian Beatles Fan Club, on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of its foundation, to record a celebrative album. He walked through the legendary Studio 2 at Abbey Road in London and, at seated at the same the organ where sat down Paul McCartney and Billy Preston, he recorded two Beatles songs.He was recently invited as special guest in an episode of the italian national TV show “SuperQuark”, conducted by Piero Angela, because of his great experience as Hammond organ artist ( he can certainly be said to be one of the leading European specialists) and also because of his great tecnical knowledge. Among other things, is also co-designer and endorser of KeyB Organ keyboards.One of the most amazing things that we’ll remember of this day, is after the video session, when we asked him – one by one – to play some of our favorite songs and he (just like a human juke-box) showed us how he’s capable of passing from classic jazz to Booker T Jones Blues, to reach the hard-rock of Deep Purple.The choice of the song was really hard. Each “take” was extraordinary in its own way and finally we opted for this track because it is perhaps the one that best shows the Alberto’s extraordinary technical and artistic mood. You will appreciate how he maintains a perfect bass line with his left hand while playing with his right hand incredible things. Let’s go. Enjoy it.
